The goal of the CCMC School is to foster the development of independence in social, emotional, behavioral and academic skills so that students may be transitioned back to their home school district.

Our School
The CCMC School provides comprehensive special education programming for students ages 4 to 21 years who require intensive intervention due to severe emotional, behavioral, physical and/or learning problems.  The school is designed to provide a high level of structure and support, as well as an integrated package of services to address each child’s unique educational, therapeutic, vocational, social emotional, and developmental needs.  Family involvement and support is a priority.  Family counseling, parent education, parent support, and 24-hour crisis intervention services are provided.

Our Technology
CCMC School is fully equipped with a computer in every classroom, as well as an eight-station computer lab with Internet access, available for students/class instruction, as well as incentive time.  Email communication is available for teachers, clinicians, administrators, related services personnel and office staff.

Our Staff
The CCMC School staff consists of CT Certified Special Education Teachers, one of whom teaches and coordinates Vocational Education classes, a Physical Education certified teacher, Assistant Teachers who are college graduates with select course work in special education, Instructional Tutors who are college graduates and Classroom Aides who are at least high school graduates, both with prior experience working with the special needs population, and Therapeutic Crisis Interventionists requiring a bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in behavior management and crisis prevention.  The clinical staff is comprised of Licensed or License-eligible Psychologists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers with School Social Work Certification. Related Services include Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapist and Educational Diagnostician.

Two full-time nurses are on staff, an R.N. and an L.P.N., with a half time R.N. providing extra coverage.  A Psychiatrist provides medication management, as well as support and evaluation to students.

The Administrative staff is comprised of a Principal and Assistant Principal, both of whom are State of Connecticut certified in Elementary and Special Education and Administration/Supervision., Ph.D. level Clinical Director and Ph.D. level Clinical Coordinator, as well as an Admissions Coordinator.  Office staff consists of Administrative Assistants, a Receptionist, Coordinator of School Accounts and a Database Manager.

Our Orientation Process
New employees to the School receive orientation at the Medical Center and the School so as to acquaint them with both facilities. CCMC  School is a very team-oriented working environment providing mentors to help support new employees through the transition. Supervisors also work with staff to achieve/maintain competencies within the first 3 to 6 months of employment.

Our Scheduling
Forty-hour staff work 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Thirty-two hour staff work 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (2:15 p.m. on Tuesdays).  Professional licensed staff are exempt status.  All other staff are paid on an hourly basis.

Our Educational Opportunities
All employees are encouraged to pursue higher education, and are supported in this effort. Tuition reimbursement is offered at a fixed rate for both full-time and part-time staff.  Additional professional development opportunities are also made available, both on and off-site through workshops, conferences, CEU presentations and relevant training.
