The Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Connecticut Children’s
Medical Center provides care to approximately 500 children a year with IBD and
is one of the largest programs in the northeast United States.
SPECIALIZED CARE
Highly trained physicians, nurses, and nutritionists participate in the care of
all children seen in the IBD program from initial diagnosis to long-term management.
Treatment often involves a combination of medications as well as careful monitoring
of growth and a plan for optimal nutrition. Our clinical suite includes an infusion
center, where biotherapies are administered by trained pediatric infusion nurses. A
close working relationship with pediatric and colorectal surgeons ensures our ability
to offer our patients the full spectrum of optimal care. All patients benefit from
the involvement of a full-time IBD coordinator.
CLINICAL TRIALS AND RESEARCH
Breakthrough treatments and therapies are available to our patients through clinical
trials. Our physicians conduct basic and clinical research studies to gain a better
understanding of the causes of IBD, its response to current and emerging medications,
and how to optimize growth and bone health for all affected children. Our research
efforts make it possible for out patients to benefit from a better variety of
treatment options.
SECOND OPINIONS
Second opinions are performed by our specialists. Parents and physicians are asked
to make sure all pertinent records are available during these visits.
