Overview | Staff | Evaluation | Consultation/Training Services | Social Skills The evaluations are designed to develop recommendations for appropriate educational programming as well as home-based intervention. Maximizing the school success of students who face challenges is a primary means of helping children and adolescents reach their potential. Our team of experts is well-versed in educational methodologies for children who are not successful within the traditional academic classroom. Modifications and accommodations coupled with skill-building to enhance successful independent functioning is the goal of the recommendations provided through the evaluation and consultation services. Single Evaluations: This service involves meeting with a professional from one of the many specialty areas available in order to assess a specific concern. Diagnostic feedback and recommendations are provided on how best to proceed in terms of treatment and/or further evaluation based on the child’s profile and needs. Multiple Clinician Evaluations: The Child Development Center provides comprehensive evaluation for children or adolescents about whom questions have been raised in multiple areas of development. The team of professionals, who evaluate and /or review information, is determined by the targeted areas of concern as delineated through an extensive interview with the parents or guardians. A collaborative model is used which combines the expertise of the various professionals in order to develop a comprehensive and integrated view of the child. For example, a child who has difficulties with speech and language skills, social skills, concept development, and who exhibits stereotypic behaviors such as hand flapping, might be seen by a team comprised of a developmental psychologist, an educational specialist, a speech and language pathologist, and a developmental pediatrician to formulate a diagnosis and intervention strategies. Patterns of strengths and weaknesses, as well as
recommendations for intervention, are developed using an
integrated approach, which considers the individual child as
a member of a family, school, and greater community. The
team of specialists will vary depending upon the referral
questions and the child’s presentation. Findings are
presented in a conference format as well as written reports. |
