What are we?
The Pediatric and Youth HIV Program is a nationally recognized center for the care of children and youth with HIV infection. Since its inception, in 1988, the Pediatric and Youth Program of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Health Center adopted a nationally recognized model for the care of children and youth affected by HIV. The mission of the program is to provide timely, comprehensive, family centered and culturally sensitive care to children, adolescents and parents affected by HIV, through a multidisciplinary approach. We strive to enhance the quality of life of our patients and their families and prevent the spread of HIV by providing excellent health, nutritional and psychosocial services.

Who are we?

  • Adolescent primary care specialist
  • Registered Nurses certified in Pediatric Nursing, AIDS care and Clinical Research

What do we do?
The Pediatric and Youth HIV Program includes:

Special Activities
Family Day: Once a year the program invites all the families who receive care in our clinic to celebrate Family Day. This activity is normally scheduled during the summer. This day is full of activities, music, games, fun and lots of food. Activities include face painting, arts and crafts, etc. All of these activities are run by community volunteers.
Christmas Party: In the month of December, our program invites the families who receive care in our clinics to celebrate the holidays. This is a big event for the families, but very special for the children. This activity is also full of fun, multicultural music, entertainment, lots of food and also lots of toys. Santa always delivers the toys.

Funding
The Pediatric and Youth HIV Program is a joint program of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Health Center. The program receives funding through a variety of sources, Federal. State, Local and Community Based resources and the CCMC Auxiliary.
